 James J. Hartwig, age 64, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 20, 1953 the son of Robert and Hazel (Zobach) Hartwig in Monroe. James was united in marriage to Joyce L. Coffey on September 10, 1983 in Monroe.

James was a dairy farmer in Clarno for many years. He was a member of Clarno United Methodist Church and Thurs AM Bowling League at Leisure Lanes. He also loved the outdoors and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife, Joyce of Monroe; children, Susan (Mathew) Hughes of Seattle, WA, Julie (Shom) Das of Austin, TX, and Krissy (Charles) Gramu of Marion, IA; five grandchildren: Bradley, Hailey, and Henry Hughes, and Sophie and Leo Gramu; and his sister, Lydia (Tom) Edge of Dodgeville; nephews, James (Katrina) Edge and Jacob (Melissa) Edge; great-niece, Amari; brother-in-law, Larry (Vicki) Coffey; sisters-in-law, Marcia and Vivian Coffey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at East Clarno Zion United Methodist Church at 11:30AM on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 with Pastor Inwah Shon officiating. Burial will be in East Clarno Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service, at the Church. SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home is assisting the family.
