Helen Clara Wettach, age 96, of Monroe (previously Monticello), WI, passed away on May 23, 2021, at Monroe Hospice Home.
She was born on June 17, 1924, in rural Argyle where the Yellowstone Lake is today, as the eldest of 3 children. Her parents were John and Clara (Rohner) Rechsteiner, both of whom were Swiss immigrants. Helen graduated from Monroe High School and then worked at Burgess Batteries. On November 29, 1946, she married John Wettach at Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville, WI. John and Helen farmed in Mt. Pleasant Township until moving to the village of Monticello in 1977.
Helen was a loving, caring, kind, and positive person. A lifetime of various religious and community activities capped a wonderful life dedicated to family, community, and her faith. She was an active member of Zwingli United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid Women's Ruth Circle, and various other organizations including the Swiss Club of Monroe and the Homemakers Club. She was also a city poll worker. She enjoyed traveling, going on bus trips, and playing cards, especially Euchre, with her friends and family. She made the most tasty, tender beef roast, homemade applesauce, and her grandchildren's favorite chocolate chip cookies.
Helen is survived by her 3 children: Joanne Buchholz of Stoughton, Jerald Wettach of rural Monticello, and Janice (Dennis) Everson of Waupaca, WI. She has 8 grandchildren: Russell Buchholz, Don and Hope Wettach, Lindsay (Peter) LaCourse, Lacy (Paul) Bloedorn, Jonathan (Shawna) Wettach, Erik (Zeneda) Everson, and Kyle (Trisha) Everson. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren: Christopher & Claire LaCourse, Brooke (Nick) Heinzmann & Ross (Katie Siniki) Bloedorn, Dixie, Jesse, Hera, Jonathan, & Sylvia Wettach, Calder Everson, and Soren, Harlow, & Jens Everson; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Wilhelmina & Ira Heinzmann; along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Rechsteiner.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, brothers Hans and Adolph Rechsteiner, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 31, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Lance Smith officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello, followed by a memorial luncheon at the Lions shelter house in Monticello’s Montesian Park. Friends may call at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in Helen's name for Zwingli United Church of Christ.
