Grace Regina (Hull) Hoffman, age 87, peacefully completed her journey on earth on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the SSM Health Hospice House in Monroe. She was born March 21, 1936 in the town of Athens, Marathon County, Wisconsin; the first born of George C. and Edna (Schoppenhorst) Hoffman, Sr. Throughout her childhood, her family moved several times from northern Wisconsin to Michigan, back to northern Wisconsin to Barneveld where they lived in an old cheese factory. Later they moved to Monticello and eventually settled in Monroe.
Grace met Lewis Hull while she was going to school in Monticello and working at the M&M Café. After a beautiful courtship, she knew she had found the man who would help her build a forever home for a family. They were married in Dubuque in 1953, sharing 38 years together until his passing in 1991. Years later, Grace met Gary Hoffman while at a Turner Hall dance. In 1994 they were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe; they celebrated their 29th anniversary on August 20th.
A strong work ethic kept Grace working throughout the years including farming and raising over 6,000 chickens for eggs; working at Dorman’s Cheese, St. Clare Hospital, JC Penney, Swiss Colony, and until retirement she was the customer’s favorite clerk at Walmart pharmacy. She was an avid quilter and gardener. Her flower beds were the envy of her family and friends, and her quilting earned her Grand Champion status at the Green County Fair. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Alpha Chapter, Argyle), the Women of the Moose Chapter #599 in Monroe, and Grace Lutheran Church.
Grace is survived by her husband, Gary; children, Evan (Theresa Wetherwax) Hull, Todd (Carol) Hull, Regina (Dennis) Meighan all of Monroe, and Rita (Daniel) Cichorski of Madison; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a new great-great-granddaughter. She is further survived by her brothers, George Hoffman, Jr. of Sycamore, IL, Edward (Loretta) Hoffman of Prescott, AZ; sister, Nancy (Edward) Williams of Redmond, OR; as well as the family she gained when she married Gary, brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry (Evelyn) Hoffman of Maple Grove Minnesota, Lyle (Dori) Hoffman of Greeley, CO, Sharon (Huey) Fontenot of Spring, TX, and Mae (John) Olson of Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lewis Hull; siblings, Donald, Duane, and Carol Hoffman; step-daughter, Julie Hoffman; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Jerry) Duncan; and grandson, Aaron Green.
