Daniel R. Dickey, whose only golfing regret was never achieving his lifelong goal of making a hole in one, passed away on July 2, 2023 at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center, in Martinsburg, WV.
Born August 10, 1948 to Ernest and Loretta Dickey in Louisville, Kentucky, Dan graduated from Shawnee High School. After being drafted, he, served honorably in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He then returned to Louisville to resume a job at Corhart Refractories which led to a lengthy journey which involved working all over the country with Corning Glass Works. Dan left Corning in 1982 to move to Monroe and became part owner of Century Lindsay Water Conditioning. He spent 30 years serving customer’s water conditioning needs in Green and Lafayette counties. Upon retirement, Dan moved to West Virginia to be closer to his daughters, Jamie and Brandy, and their families.
Because of Dan’s outgoing personality, he made many friends while pursuing his love of socializing, bowling, golf, and enjoying Badger activities of all kinds. He was a Monroe Optimist and a lifetime Lions Club member. Dan will be missed dearly by his family and friends because of his kind and loving ways. He had a tremendous sense of humor which enabled him to bring a smile to the face of anyone having a bad day.
He is survived by his siblings, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and lifelong friends from all over the country. Dan will be especially missed by his wife of 53 years, Sharon, his two daughters, Jamie and Brandy, their spouses and his grandchildren, Taylor, Zach and Ava.
The Martinsburg Community Living Center provided Dan and his family with exceptional warmth and care during this difficult time. The family has requested, in lieu of any gifts or flowers, that donations should be made to this wonderful facility. You can accomplish this by mailing a check to Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Voluntary Services, 510 Butler Avenue, Martinsburg WV 25405. Please make any donation payable to Martinsburg VA Medical Center and be sure to include “Hospice and Palliative Care Unit” and Dan Dickey’s name on the memo line. This facility provides care to veterans with life limiting illness and their loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in Monroe, WI for Dan. Details about this celebration will be announced in the near future.
