Arnold R. Rufener, age 100 passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his home.  He was born on September 19, 1923 in the Town of Sylvester in Green County, WI the son of Jacob and Elise (Janzi) Rufener.  Arnold served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  On June 25, 1949 he was united in marriage to Gloria Norder.  Arnold was first a dairy farmer and later worked as an operating engineer and was a member of Local 139.  He also did many oak woodworking projects.  Arnold was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe, the American Legion, and VFW.  He had traveled on the Badger Honor Flight on May 13, 2017. 

Arnold is survived by his children Judy (John) Baumgartner, Tom (Judy) Rufener, Penny (Tom) Magnuson, and daughter-in-law Kathy Rufener, grandchildren Julie (Tim) Hilt, Jamey (Barb) Baumgartner, Jeremy Baumgartner, Jayson Baumgartner, Jeffrey (Erin) Baumgartner, Jackie (Tyler) Wirtjes, Kim Haley, Brian (Stephanie) Rufener, Cody (Rosa) Rufener, Jenny (Nick) Sies, Mary Hartlich, Kevin (Anjali) Rufener, Paul (Cassie) Magnuson, and Shane (Becca) Magnuson, great-grandchildren Molly, Jenna, Derek, Trent (Maizy), Jordan, Skylar, Payton, Colton, Hayden, Liam, Ethan, Kat, Mia, Haley, Austin, Jacob, Bekah, Charlotte, Tori, Caroline, Brayden, and his little brother on the way.  He is further survived by a brother Walter (Sandy) Rufener, sister Gertrude Voegeli, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gloria, son James, brothers Armin, Jacob, Erwin, Ernest, and Emil, and sisters Alice Camenzind and Erna Maske.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St., Monroe, WI with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating.

A visitation will precede the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe.

Graveside burial services with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 7302 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, WI.

The Becker-Beal Funeral Home of Belleville is assisting the family.

A memorial fund has been established.
