JUDA - Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art and art education for all children and to encourage public support for quality school art programs. Established in 1961, it provides a forum to support art education because it develops self-esteem, appreciation of the work of others, self-expression, cooperation with others, and critical thinking skills.
March has been officially designated by The National Association for Music Education for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month, the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.
Monday, March 29, Juda Schools will celebrate what has become known as "Fine Arts Day." This will be the sixth year of Fine Arts Day. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a professional Opera group called "Opera for the Young." They will give a presentation on studying and singing opera. Starting at 10:30 a.m., Joe Caploe, director of jazz studies and percussion at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will perform with his jazz combo, "Neck n' Neck." The afternoon presentations will begin at 11:55 a.m. and conclude at 2:50 p.m. Presenters this year range from world percussion hand drumming, glass blowing, polka dancing, computer drafting, yodeling, mural painting, quilting, and instrumental performance.
The day will conclude with a spaghetti supper starting at 5 p.m. and Celebration of the Arts Concert starting at 7 p.m. Featured in the concert will be an Old Time Polka Group, State Forensics students, and the Juda Jazz Band.
