MONROE - Names of candidates for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Utility superintendent position will be released Friday at the earliest, Chairman of the City of Monroe Salary and Personnel Committee, Mark Coplien, said Tuesday.
Backgrounds checks are being conducted first, he said.
Five applicants were selected Feb. 17 for consideration.
Jerry Ellefson retired from the position Dec. 27, 2009, after 40 years with the department.
The committee advertised the opening in December, but by Dec. 15 only one applicant had met the qualifications.
The position was advertised again in January.
Committee members took the opportunity in December to switch the chain of command under which the treatment plan falls. The plant had been under the office of the administrator.
The administrator position has been vacant since May 14, 2008. Mayor Ron Marsh has been overseeing the day-to-day operations of City Hall since that time.
The plant now falls under the Public Works Director, along with other utility and public works departments, for oversight and management.
Kelly Finkenbinder is currently the director of Public Works.
