Woodbridge line closing

MONROE - The Woodbridge Group's corporate decision in October to close one line at the Brodhead plant will finally see the plant phase out of the making of foam seats by April 10.

The line closure will affect about 65 people.

"It's a pretty tough announcement for the plant," plant manager Glenn Condon said Thursday.

Condon said the company is consolidating the foam seat production in St. Peters, Mo.

Lifetime Lumber, the composite lumber product lines begun last April, will continue manufacturing in Brodhead, he said.

The closing of the Janesville General Motors plant, as well as the steep drop in automobile sales, contributed to the decision.

Woodbridge Group makes foam seats that Lear covers for GM, Ford and Mitsubishi.

The Brodhead plant, previously known as Janesville Products, was the first U.S. plant Woodbridge Group purchased.
