MONROE - The 2000 block of 15th Street, in front of St. Victor School, became a one-way street during school hours, effective Monday. Traffic may only travel in this block from 21st Avenue west during school hours. Traffic may not enter this block from 20th Avenue.
The city approved the one-way requirement "in the interest of public safety" after completing a traffic study of the area. St. Victor's parish will also be restricting school drop-off traffic to travel only south through its lot from 15th Street. Parents will drop off children in the lot.
Official traffic signs will be posted in the roadway on barricades to inform drivers of the one-way requirement.
Motorists should use caustion during the school day, said Chief Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley.
