MONROE - Monroe school district students will have to wait a little longer to celebrate homecoming this year.
Homecoming festivities will now be held during the week of Oct. 3, culminating with the homecoming football game against Monona Grove Friday, Oct. 8, and the dance Saturday, Oct. 9, according to a letter submitted to the school board by Rick Waski, Monroe High School principal, at Monday's school board meeting.
Homecoming was scheduled last spring to occur Friday, Sept. 24, with the dance to take place Saturday, Sept. 25.
The dates were changed because the events of homecoming week would take place immediately after the Cheese Days festival in Monroe, and four of the schools athletic teams would be playing games Saturday, Sept. 25.
The school district sent letters to parents informing them of the change in dates, and information about the switch was placed on the district's website, www.monroeschools.com, according to Larry Brown, Monroe superintendent.
