FITCHBURG - An informational meeting is planned regarding timber harvest on portions of the Albany Wildlife Area from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Albany Town Hall, N6065 County E.
The timber harvest is the next stage in a multi-year effort to suppress invasive plant species and promote oak regeneration, restoring the area to an oak woodland habitat.
Department of Natural Resources Green County forester Cory Secher and DNR wildlife biologist Mike Foy will attend to describe the work being done, the goals of the project and to answer questions.
Management efforts on the wildlife area began in 2012-13 with invasive plant control and site preparation with the objective of regenerating the oak woodlands. The next phase of the project will be a timber harvest to promote oak regeneration for future oak woodland habitat.
The timber sale will be in two areas totaling about 120 acres and is scheduled to go out for bids in this winter. Trees to be removed are marked with orange paint, and the timber sale boundaries are marked with blue paint.
For more information, contact Secher at 608-275-3205 or Cory.Secher@Wisconsin-.gov.
