DARLINGTON - Darlington Police Chief Jason King recognized Sgt. Tony Ruesga with a Stork badge recently. The pin, which is a police shield, bears a stork carrying a baby rather than the traditional police insignia. King awarded the pin to Ruesga as a result of the officer's involvement in successfully delivering a baby at a Washington Street residence on Oct. 22.

According to King, Darlington's Ambulance Service was unable to respond to the report of a woman in labor because the service was already tied up on an emergency call. Ruesga delivered the baby while waiting for Mineral Point EMS to respond to the scene under mutual aid. The baby boy and mother were transported to Memorial Hospital in good health.
