MONROE - Black Hawk and Monroe schools are making accommodations to allow students and staff to attend the WIAA girls state basketball tournament.
The schools are still selling tickets for the semifinal games, which take place Thursday and Friday.
Tickets are $8 for Black Hawk's game and are available at the high school office. Black Hawk schools will be closed Thursday. Black Hawk fans can also sign up to ride on one of three fan buses. The cost is $2 and the bus will leave at 8 a.m. Thursday. Tickets for the WIAA Division 2 state semifinal game between Monroe and Winneconne at about 1:35 p.m. Friday at the Kohl Center, Madison, are on sale for $8 at Ruf's and the Monroe High School office until 9 a.m. Thursday, or until they are sold out.
Monroe will have a pep rally from 7:40 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday in the main gym at Monroe High School and the public is invited. Monroe schools will be let out at 11:15 a.m. Friday, and St. Victor School will close at 11 a.m., Friday to allow students to attend the game. No lunch will be served Friday.
If Monroe wins Friday against Winneconne, the Cheesemakers would advance to the state championship game which is 6:30 p.m.
Saturday.
If Monroe advances to the state championship game there will be a welcome home celebration after the title game between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Saturday in the Monroe High School gym, win or lose. The team would be met by the Monroe Fire Department at the north edge of town and escorted through town to the high school.
Fans will be asked to park toward the west end of the high school parking lot and enter through the doors located between the Performing Arts Center and the Auxiliary Gym. The Gem and Mineral Show is set up in the M-Room so the entrance will not be available.
During the state tournament most parking lots around the University of Wisconsin campus cost between $1 to $5. The City of Madison Campus State Street Ramp will be $1 per hour and Lot 46 will be available for the entire tournament at $5 a session. Lots 29 and 83 will also be open, depending on availability, and will cost $5.
The Alliant Energy Center will also have a park-and-ride service. It is $5.50 to park in the Alliant parking lot and a round-trip bus ticket is an extra $5. A one-way ticket is $3. The pick-up point in the Alliant parking lot will be near Barn 2 on Fairgrounds Drive. Street parking is free around the Kohl Center in available spots.
