MONROE — The Monroe Common Council looked to the home team for new talent in its open City Administrator post, and that’s where they found their next leader in Brittney Rindy, the city’s current clerk/treasurer.
Her move to begin leading the city’s professional staff was approved unanimously at the Monroe Common Council’s Monday meeting. The news was met by a round of applause in the council chamber.
“I want to thank you all for your support and faith in me,” Rindy said.
She will start in her new post the week of July 15.
Rindy was one of four finalists for the position. The council chose the finalists from a pool of 18 applicants that had applied through the recruiting firm Public Administration Associates, LLC.
Rindy said she will need the time not only to transition to her new job, but to make sure the clerk/treasurer duties are covered, as well. That also may require her enlisting a support worker.
“I need your blessing…it doesn’t have to be (specifically) a clerk/treasurer person,” she told the council. “We have some good help in place.”
Before Rindy took over, the roles of City Clerk and Treasurer were separate positions. But with her hiring, the City Clerk/Treasurer, roles were successfully combined.
“We do appreciate you and what you’ve done for us,” said Mayor Donna Douglas.
Rindy first came to Monroe from Slinger in 2010 right out of college. Prior to becoming the Clerk/Treasurer in 2019, she worked for Monroe Clinic/SMS Health and Meriter Orthopedics.
She and her husband, Braden, have two young boys, ages 2 and 6.
“I am excited to move into to the role of City Administrator and continue to work with and lead the dedicated staff we have in place,” Rindy said on Monday.
The last city administrator, David Lothspeich, worked under a hybrid schedule with both remote and in-person work.
Lothspeich, who came to Monroe from the northern Chicago suburbs, and was commuting several days each week from more than an hour away, submitted his resignation on Jan. 30, and it was effective March 17, according to Monroe Mayor Donna Douglas.
Evan Teich was appointed interim city administrator. He will continue to work with Rindy to transition the office to a new administrator, he assured the council.
“In the office, there can only be one boss at a time,” he said.
Lothspeich began working as administrator Nov. 2, 2020 but his transition to Monroe began Sept. 8 when the Common Council voted unanimously to hire him.
After taking the Monroe job, he later moved into a Lake Geneva home, cutting his one-way commute time from two hours and twenty minutes to one hour and fifteen minutes.
Rindy said she plans to prepare and provide the council with a list of her goals and for the future in the job.
“I am so grateful for the enthusiastic support the staff, community and Council has provided me in regards to this transition,” said.
