:¨ ?A$ The Monroe Fire Department is requesting residents help make sure fire hydrants near their homes are cleared of snow.
Since the last two snowfalls, city workers have been working daily to clear all hydrants in the city, fire officials said. Still, there are hydrants that have not been cleared, especially in residential areas. Residents are asked to clear snow from around hydrants, as well as a path from the hydrant to the street.
Some hydrants have been buried completely by snowplows. Residents who are aware of a buried hydrant are asked to contact the water department at 329-2484; the city will send a crew to dig it out.
