DAKOTA, Ill. — Police are continuing to investigate a Nov. 13 crash in rural Dakota that claimed the life of a 56-year-old Lena woman and critically injured another Illinois driver.

Killed was Wendy Williams, who was driving a Ford Fiesta that crashed with a 2005 Honda Pilot on E. Angle Road, near the intersection of Alfolkey Road, in rural Stephenson County.

The wreck happened just before 6:15 p.m. that Monday afternoon.

“…The results of the preliminary investigation indicate that a silver 2011 Ford Fiesta driven by Wendy Williams of Lena was traveling northbound on N. Afolkey Rd. when it crossed the center of the roadway and collided head-on with a southbound black 2005 Honda Pilot,” said a Stephenson County Sheriff’s department statement.

Williams was the lone occupant of the Ford Fiesta; she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 38-year-old Freeport woman, sustained serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to a Rockford area hospital, where she was in critical condition.

A passenger in the Honda Pilot, a 19-year-old Freeport man, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released

As the crash investigation continued, an autopsy was scheduled for Nov. 15 in Stephenson County.

The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged several agencies for their help with the call and on scene — among them Cedarville Fire Protection District, Leamon’s Ambulance Service, Tri-District Emergency Ambulance Service, the Stephenson County Coroner’s Office; and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
