MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is busy making plans for its Annual July 4th Celebration to be held in Twining Park on Monday, July 4, from morning tournaments and carnival festivities to the nightcap fireworks display.

They will have a fire truck there for kids to sit in, Kiwanis pony rides from 1-4 p.m.; Lion’s Club petting zoo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Carnival games from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The slow-pitch softball tournament will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the volleyball tournament from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are still taking registrations for the tournaments. The cost is $120 a team for softball and $75 for volleyball. To get a team in the tournament, contact Matt Skibba at 608-329-2466.

Visitors can plan to finish the day with the City band concert at 8 p.m.

The department is looking for volunteers to help out in the carnival. Free July 4th t-shirts are given to all volunteers.

For carnival games, shifts are 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 12:45 to 3 p.m.; and 2:45-4:30 p.m. Children volunteering to work at the Carnival games should be accompanied by an adult. Those willing to volunteer at any of these shifts can contact the Park and Recreation Department at 608-329-2465.

The City of Monroe Fireworks will be shot off at around 9:30 p.m. and concluding with The Wisconsin Bank & Trust Sky Concert fireworks display. Visitors can come to the park to watch fireworks this year.  Donations for the Sky Concert fireworks display come from Wisconsin Bank & Trust, Colony Brands, and the Cliff & Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund of the Monroe Fund.
