MONROE — On July 23, the Monroe Board of Education:
Approved expenditures
• Accepted the resignation of Dani Hartley, weekend elementary security guard.
• Heard District Administrator Rick Waski share his district goals for the 2018-19 school year, including his plans to help lead the district informational campaign on upcoming referenda with ideas from past campaigns; providing support for new Abe Lincoln Principal Jenna Trame in her transition to the district and community; and focusing on consideration of facilities projects.
• Hired Lauren Werth as Abraham Lincoln Education Assistant.
• Approved the second reading of the Parent-Student Handbook.
• Heard board member Jim Plourde share discussion from the library board about fundraising for a new project, though he said it was still exploring ideas in ongoing talks.
• Adopted educational standards identical to the previous year per state statute.
• Reviewed the Monroe High School Activities Handbook during a first reading with the inclusion of the random drug testing policy, its largest change, and noted it had already been distributed and posted online.
• Discussed plans to volunteer at a district booth during Generosity Day held downtown July 28.
• Heard board member Amy Bazley talk about the athletic meeting held a week earlier, where Activities Director Jeff Newcomer explained the new drug testing policy, and heard positive comments from parents, but noted informing the public will likely require contributing more information.
• Listened to Director of Pupil Services Joe Monroe as he shared appreciation that 63 staff members attended a multi-day professional development conference in Madison in the summer months to better themselves at their jobs.
