Monroe pool passes cut to half price; Moana day scheduled for Thursday

MONROE - Season passes to the Monroe outdoor pool will be half price beginning Monday.

Family passes will be $47.50 for residents and $55 for nonresidents. Individual passes will $25 for residents and $32.50 for nonresidents. Senior citizen passes are $22.50 for residents and $30 for nonresidents. Senior citizen couple passes are $37.50 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. A family wading pool pass is $35 for residents and $42.50 for nonresidents.

Daily rates will remain the same. Passes may be purchased at the outdoor pool or at the Park and Recreation 0ffice.

First National Bank is sponsoring "Explore the Seas with Moana" at the pool from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday. The afternoon includes music, games, food and a visit from Mr. Pickles. Mr. Pickles will be performing interactive music with entertainment to see, hear and play along on percussion instruments and props. There will be carnival games, a hula hoop contest, limbo contest, coconut roll and tiki bean bag. Treats for sale include floats, nachos and lemonade. At 2 p.m., lifeguards will have a paddle boat race and there will be a penny dive at 3 p.m. Mr. Pickles will also perform a magic show.

Parent and child swim lessons at the outdoor pool are from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 24 to 28 for children 6 months to 4 years old. The fee is $20 for residents and $30 for nonresidents.

Public swim lessons will be from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Monday to Friday, July 31 to Aug. 11. The cost is $35 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. Swimmers must be 42 inches tall and entering 4K through eighth grade in the fall.

Red Cross lifeguard training class will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 4. The class is for those 15 and older by July 31. The cost is $100 for residents and $115 for nonresidents.

Online registration is available for lessons and lifeguard class at www.cityofmonroe.org, or participants may register in the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department's temporary office at the Street Department, 1064 5th Ave.
