MONROE — There’s a new face on the City of Monroe Common Council.

After Monroe Mayor Donna Douglas cast a tie-breaking vote, Tom Miller was appointed to serve during the council’s regular meeting on Monday night. The other candidate was Kevin Visel; and each of them received four votes from sitting council members.

That left Douglas — after a long pause — to cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of Miller, and all voted to concur on the final vote.

Douglas, who previously served on the council, named Miller to fill her old post after she became the city’s first female mayor in April. Meanwhile, the two candidates were able to gain the required signatures from the city clerk and be nominated for her vacant post.

New city council members sworn-in at the special meeting last April — after the spring election — included Mary Jane Grenzow, Heidi Treuthardt and Lynne Hardy.
