Lighting Contest deadline nears

MONROE - The deadline to enter the Monroe Main Street 2008 annual Lighting Contest is Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Lighting Contest entry forms are available at Farm and Fleet, Monroe Ace Hardware and Wal-Mart. They also are available downtown at Europa, Kookaburra's and Burington Shoes, where they may be returned or mailed to Monroe Main Street, P.O. Box 544, Monroe, WI 53566.

The six categories in the lighting contest are: "Children's Favorite Christmas," "Business Fronts," "Oh Holy Night," "Lights, Lights, and More Lights," "Block Party" and "Country Christmas." The category "Country Christmas," invites any entries outside the city with a 53566 zip code. While these entries will be judged, the trolley will not be able to tour them.

Monroe Money $50 gift certificates will be awarded to the winner in each category with a $100 Alliant Energy gift certificate awarded for People's Choice.

Trolley rides will be available at 7:15 p.m., 8:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, to tour the homes in Monroe. Trolley tickets are $5 and available at The Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, das Baumhaus and Ruf's Confectionery. The trolley will board next to the Green County Historical Museum. A 4:45 p.m. trolley tour is reserved for retirement home residents and is free for them. The 6 p.m. trolley tour is included in the parade. Due to the sponsorship of Monroe Clinic and Twining Valley Retirement Community, all proceeds for the trolley rides will be retained by the historical society.
