MONROE - A jury trial was set Monday for a woman charged with seven counts of animal mistreatment after Green County Sheriff's deputies seized 46 dogs from a rural home near Brodhead in May, according to court records.
Kathy J. Williams, 55, Madison, is scheduled for trial by a 12-member panel on Feb. 28 and 29. She has pleaded not guilty to five counts of intentionally mistreating animals and to two counts of not providing adequate ventilation to the animals.
Judge Thomas Vale also scheduled a motion hearing for Williams on Dec. 28. If the court settles the case then, she could avoid the jury trial.
Allyson Williams, 24, and Donovan F. Williams, 45, two people charged with Kathy Williams in the case, have already been found guilty on animal mistreatment charges. Charges are still pending against a fourth, Melissa Harrel, 58.
At 7:30 today, Dec. 13, the Green County Board of Supervisors will vote on a resolution to pay the almost $48,000 tab for the Humane Society's months-long care of the seized dogs. The county is looking to recoup the costs from the dogs' owners.
