TOWN OF AVON — A head-on crash in southwestern Rock County Friday, Nov. 22,
fatally injured a 62-year-old Juda man and seriously injured the other driver,
according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
Fred Nafzger Jr. was pinned in his gray Toyota Corolla and pronounced dead at
the scene.
The crash was reported at about 6 p.m. on Wisconsin 81 by West Beloit Newark Road, Town of Avon.
A red Mazda SUV was westbound when it began to pass another westbound vehicle and collided head-on with Nafzger's eastbound gray Toyota, according to the crash reconstruction analysis, aerial photographs and witness interviews.
The driver of the Mazda, a 20-year-old Benton man, suffered serious injuries and was partially pinned under a vehicle. He taken by ambulance to the MercyHealth hospital in Janesville.
The crash shut down traffic in the area for about six hours. It remains under
investigation. Deputies were assisted on scene by Town of Beloit police and
firefighters and EMS personnel from Orfordville, Beloit and Town of Beloit. A
MercyHealth MD-1 physician also responded.
