TOWN OF DECATUR — An Iowa man was arrested after crashing a stolen car Nov. 15 near Brodhead, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Quincy J. Bartels, 27, of Clinton, Iowa, was northbound in the N4600 block of Wisconsin 104 when he lost control. The 2014 Ford Fusion veered into the west ditch and came to rest after striking the tree line.

Deputies responded to the scene at about 3:35 p.m., along with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Albany police, Brodhead First Response and Brodhead EMS.

Bartels reported being injured and not wearing his seatbelt.

The Ford Fusion was reported as stolen from outside Green County, Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski said. It sustained moderate damage, with airbag deployment, and was towed.

Bartels was jailed pending court on charges of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and obstructing police. He was also cited for failure to maintain control and failure to notify law enforcement of a crash.

He faces similar charges in Iowa for an alleged car theft outside an Iowa City convenience store in October. He was arrested the next day after police found him behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle at a Casey’s in Cedar Rapids, according to news reports.
