MONROE - Green County Humane Society members will have a chance Thursday to listen to what has been going on at the shelter during the past year and to hear an update about the humane society.
The humane society's annual meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peppercorn Banquets and Catering at the Ludlow Mansion, 1421 Mansion Drive.
Members will also vote for four board members to serve on the board. Voting begins at 6 p.m. No one is allowed to vote before 6 p.m.
Anyone who wants to become a humane society member can do so Thursday. The cost for membership is $25.
The shelter's board has some positive things to talk about at this year's meeting.
Last year the humane society made a profit of about $30,000, according to financial records presented to the board at the January board meeting. In 2009, the humane society spent about $214,000, while it generated about $245,000 in revenue.
The humane society also entered into a 99-year lease with Green County for property at the Pleasant View Complex for a new shelter. The contract with the county was signed in February after several months of discussions. The contract began Feb. 1, and continues through Jan. 31, 2109.
The county leased about eight acres of land to the north and northeast of the Government Services Building. A new building will be located to the northeast of the Pleasant View Complex and an area to walk dogs will be located to the north of the complex.
The land includes a barn for the humane society to use to store equipment.
The shelter's building committee will update members about plans for the new building Thursday at the meeting.
