MONROE — On November 11, Americans celebrate Veterans Day, showing appreciation and thanks for the sacrifices military Veterans have made for this country. As part of the We Honor Veterans program, SSM Health at Home provides Veteran-centric services to its hospice patients every day.
The resources provided through the We Honor Veterans program focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment which is coupled with Veteran-centered education for our staff and volunteers.
Volunteers are an important part of the hospice team assisting in many ways. Members of our Veteran to Veteran volunteer program provide hospice patients who have a history of military service the option to request a volunteer who is also a Veteran. As a member of the program, Veteran volunteers provide support and comfort by offering a few hours of their time, companionship, and camaraderie.
SSM Health at Home is honored and humbled to serve our Veterans and their families at this sacred time in their lives, and is thankful for its incredible team of Veteran volunteers. Those with a history of military service that are interested in volunteering can contact the SSM Health at Home office at 608-324-1230 or nadine.patchin@ssmhealth.com.
