SHULLSBURG - Six former residents of Shullsburg will present their stories in live performance on Saturday, Oct. 1 during tours at Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg. Tours start every 15 minutes between the hours of 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Personalities profiled will be Cynthia (Ladd) William, prominent lawyer legislator, druggist and banker; Charles Gustave Miller, owner and proprietor of general merchandise store in Shullsburg; Samuel Rickett, prosperous miner of various mining operations in the Shullsburg area; Mary Ann (Beard) Simpson, DAR descendant and charter member of local DAR chapter; Dr. Mary P (Peebles) Gratiot, first woman medical doctor known throughout the area; and Edward Skewis, instrumental Odd Fellow member, butcher and proprietor of a meat market.
Local actors portraying the Shullsburg residents include John Hicks, James Ronnerud, Ronald Johnston, Adrienne Rose, Marion Howard and Karen Reese. Historical research for the script was provided by the portrayers who are all members of the Lafayette County Genealogy Society.
Tickets are $7 per person for the tour and are available on-site the day of the performances.
Children under 12 are free. No reservations are necessary; small groups will be formed on a first-come first-served basis. Entrance to the cemetery will be by way of May Street. Parking is available along the side of the cemetery.
In addition, there will be hayrides from the firehouse to and from the cemetery.
The event is sponsored by the Lafayette County Genealogy Society, in conjunction with Cheesefest day at Shullsburg.
