Half-price pool passes go on sale Monday

MONROE - Half-priced pool passes go on sale July 18. A family pass is now $44, and an individual pass, $24. Register for a pass at the Monroe Parks and Recreation office or the Monroe Pool.

There are still openings for swim lessons and preschool swim lessons, beginning July 25 and running through August 5.

Public swim lessons are for swimmers at least 42 inches tall entering fifth through eighth grade.

The lessons take place from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., Monday through Friday. Children are placed in the appropriate level on their first day.

The cost for public lessons is $28 for residents and $38 for non-residents.

Preschool aqua lessons are for children ages 3 to 5, who are not afraid of the water and will work with instructors. These lessons run from noon to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The cost for preschool aqua swim lessons is $24 for residents and $34 for non-residents. Register for either of these classes at the Monroe Parks and Recreation office.

For those interested in becoming a lifeguard, or just having some first-aid training, Monroe Parks and Recreation is offering a Red Cross lifeguard training course and guard start class.

Guard start is for those ages 13 and 14 who are interested in lifeguarding. The class deals with the basic fundamentals and requirements for becoming a lifeguard.

The class is also at the Monroe Pool and runs from Monday Aug. 1 through Friday Aug. 5. Cost is $27 for residents and $37 for non-residents.

The lifeguard training course is the next step in the process. This is where participants complete the requirements necessary for obtaining lifeguard certification.

Students must be or 15 older to participate in the class, which runs from July 25 to July 31. Cost is $100 for residents and $125 for non-residents.
