MONROE - All 31 seats on the Green County Board are up for election this spring, and the deadline to apply for candidacy is fast approaching.
Anyone interested in running must complete paperwork with the county clerk by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. Paperwork must include the submission of 20 to 40 signatures of support.
Don't wait to get started on the process, advises county clerk Mike Doyle, because certain forms must be signed before signature-collection can even begin.
The county clerk's office, as well as other county offices, will be closed Friday, Dec. 23; Monday, Dec. 26; and Monday, Jan. 2.
Redistricting has changed the supervisory map of Green County in recent years. Monroe lost 17 inhabitants in the past decade, Doyle said, so the county reduced the number of supervisors here from ten to 9 and added a supervisory district near New Glarus due to increased population there.
Getting on the ballot isn't a challenge, he added, "it's just getting people interested" in the first place. He said he's received initial paperwork for almost all of the districts, but more are always welcome since more than one candidate can vie for the same seat.
The election is scheduled for April 3.
