RALEIGH, N.C. - Roth Grand Cru Surchoix took home third place overall in the 2012 American Cheese Society Competition, in addition to numerous awards in various categories.
The win marks the third time since 1999 that Emmi Roth USA has placed in the Top 3 at the American Cheese Society, and the second time Grand Cru Surchoix obtained this honor.
Grand Cru Surchoix, a gruyere style cheese, has been produced in Monroe for more than 20 years using local milk from family farms.
Roth GranQueso Reserve won first place and GranQueso Original took second place in the Hispanic and Portuguese style cheeses. GranQueso has won this category every year since 2004.
Also taking third-place awards at this competition were Roth Grand Cru Original, Roth Peppadew Havarti, Roth Raclette and Roth Serafina Garlic and Herb Spread.
