MONROE - Touting themselves as the "number one fishing, hunting, and beer-drinking comedy show in America," Da Yoopers will present their off-beat musical comedy show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, 1600 26th St.

Mixing stand-up comedy, skits, crazy props, and zany original songs, Da Yoopers has been performing for more than 30 years. Their sound is intended as a reflection and a celebration of the culture found in "da U.P." (Upper Peninsula of Michigan), as well as exaggerating the stereotypes in that area.

Originally started in 1975 by Jim "Hoolie" DeCaire and Joe Potila as a working dance band, Da Yoopers have held fast to the "Do-It-Yourself" work ethic, recording and releasing their own albums and securing national distribution for their label. Even though a lot of their comedy is regionally oriented, they've struck a chord with people outside the Midwest with radio stations all over the world playing their music. With 13 albums to their credit, they are probably best known for their hit songs "Rusty Chevrolet" and "The Second Week of Deer Camp."

The members of Da Yoopers boast that they are "proud and tough residents" of Ishpeming, Mich. The members of Da Yoopers include singer, songwriter and leader of the band DeCaire; Lynn "Too-Burger" Bellmore, vocals and keyboards; Jim "Schween-Bella Bunna" Bellmore, guitar, vocals and songwriter; Bobby "No one calls me Bob" Symons, drums; Reggie "Reggae-La-Sardine" Lusardi, vocals and bass guitar; and Matt "Mutty" Bullock, who is an actor in the troupe and is in charge of merchandise.

Reserved seat tickets for Da Yoopers are $35, $25, $20, $15 and $10 for students 18 years of age and under. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700 or (888) 596-1249, or in person at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St. The show is rated PG-13.
