TOWN OF JEFFERSON — A traffic crash last week that injured at least one person and severely damaged two vehicles remains under investigation as police search for a couple with a small child that fled the scene.
The accident happened near Juda at the intersection of Wis. 11 and County S shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
According to an investigation by the Green County Sheriff’s Office, Tom A. Keyser, 38, Brodhead, was eastbound on Wis. 11 when an oncoming vehicle turned left onto County S and collided with his vehicle. The impact caused Keyser’s vehicle to hit several traffic signs. Both vehicles then came to rest.
Witnesses told deputies all occupants of the westbound vehicle got out and ran into Juda, where they were picked up by a white car that sped off southbound on County S. Witnesses described the occupants as a Hispanic man and Hispanic woman with a small child. It was unknown if they were injured in the crash.
The white car that picked them up was not located, nor was the driver of the white car identified.
Keyser sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was not transported from the scene by ambulance. He was cited for driving with a revoked license.
The vehicles sustained severe damage, with airbag deployment in both, and were towed. The Wisconsin State Patrol and wardens from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted on scene. The Green County Highway Department assisted with traffic control at the crash scene.
The crash remained under investigation as of Monday, Nov. 4, pending identification of the westbound vehicle’s occupants and the driver of the white car.
