MONROE — A vehicle vs. power pole crash with no injuries was reported in the 1300 block of 9th Street at 1:38 p.m. Thursday, April 16. Witnesses reported the driver left the scene on foot and they provided a description. A responding officer located the driver, identified as Benjamin W. Grossen, 32, Monroe, at 19th Avenue and 9th Street. There was moderate damage to the vehicle. Alliant Energy repaired the pole. The accident caused a shutdown of the 1300 block of 9th Street for several hours. The accident appeared to be related to a medical issue and remained under investigation.


Green County Sheriff

MONROE — William C. Kernen, 62, Belleville, sustained a non-life threatening injury in a rollover crash reported at Purintun Road and Tin Can Road, Town of Albany, at 5:27 p.m. Thursday, April 16. He was southbound on Tin Can Road when he lost control, crossed the centerline and entered the east ditch. The vehicle hit a power pole and overturned. Kernen was taken by Albany EMS to Monroe Clinic. The vehicle sustained disabling damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed. Kernen will be cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control. The Albany Fire Department assisted deputies on scene. Alliant Energy responded to replace the power pole.

●  A two-vehicle crash was reported in the W2100 block of Wis. 11, Town of Spring Grove, at 11:54 a.m. Friday, April 17. Tiffany A. Busch, 46, South Wayne, was eastbound when her vehicle collided with a vehicle in front of her that was stopped in the eastbound lane of traffic waiting for traffic to clear to turn left. The other driver, James E. Bartholf, 80, Monroe, and his adult passenger reported no injuries. Busch was also uninjured. Busch’s vehicle sustained disabling damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed. Bartholf’s vehicle had functional damage and was driven from the scene. Busch was cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control.

On Sunday, April 19:

●  Deputies were notified at 11:26 a.m. of a vehicle vs. tree crash that occurred the night before at about 9:30 p.m. in the N8000 block of Smith Road, Town of Brooklyn. Robert L. Paynter, 33, Brooklyn, was southbound when he advised he checked his cellphone after getting a notification, causing him to lose control. The vehicle swerved several times between the east and west ditches, then collided with a large tree in the east ditch. Paynter reported no injuries. The vehicle sustained disabling damage, with airbag deployment. It was left on scene. Paynter was cited for failure to notify law enforcement of a crash and inattentive driving.

●  A vehicle vs. power pole crash was reported at 8:07 p.m. in the N6300 block of Schneeberger Road, Town of Mount Pleasant. Annemae R. Doyle, 29, Monroe, was southbound when she reported she swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. The vehicle exited the road and collided with a power pole, damaging the pole and power lines. Doyle reported no injuries. The vehicle sustained damage. It was towed. Doyle will be cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control. Alliant Energy responded to make repairs.
