EDGERTON - Winifred "Winnie" C. Winn, age 90, of Edgerton,WI, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at her home with her family by her side. She was born December 13, 1919 in Edgar, WI the daughter of the late Anton and Balbina (Wirkus) Hornung. Winnie graduated from Edgar High School in 1937 and later St. Mary's School of Nursing, Wausau, WI in 1940. She completed her post graduate work in St. Louis, Missouri. Winnie married James John Winn on May 8, 1943 at Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Belmont, MA.

Over the years, Winnie worked at St. Savor Hospital in Portage, WI, St. John's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, Beverly Hospital in Montibello, CA, Milwaukee County Hospital as a night supervisor and then at Edgerton Hospital, Edgerton, WI

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She designed hundreds of costumes, May baskets, and award winning porch decorations. Winnie was an amazing mother, teaching her children through example how to be kind and responsible adults. Her loving care of her youngest son, Bobby, taught all who knew her how important it is to respect and value all God's children. She belonged to the St. Rose Society, St Joseph Catholic Church, the Edgerton Art Association and the Rock County Dental Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Gil) Jelinek of Monroe, WI, Alice Pallett of Janesville, WI, Patricia (Doug) Risch of Dodgeville, WI, Peggy (William) Maves of Edgerton, WI, James (Mary) Winn of Monticello, WI, Teresa (Robert) Bell of Wayzata, MN, Anthony Tony (Sara) Winn of Onalaska, WI, Barbara (Dick) Cease Winn of Edgerton, WI, Patrick Joe (Tami) Winn of Orlando, FL; 42 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren: 56 nieces and nephews. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Robert; sisters, Eleanor Borchardt, Marcella Murray, Angeline Grahn, and Virginia Poole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Thursday, June 10, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dave Timmerman officiating. Visitation time will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. A memorial is being established in her name. The Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Edgerton is assisting the family.
