Wendell W. "Jerry" Whitehead, age 76 of Monroe, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Monroe Manor following an illness.
Wendell was born October 12, 1931 in Winslow, IL, the son of Maurice S. and Anna (Clark) Whitehead. He married Lorraine Jensen on June 25, 1955 in Brodhead.
The couple lived in Brodhead until moving to Monroe in 1963. Wendell worked as a milk hauler for many years prior to working at the Huber Brewery for 20 years until retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe Moose Lodge #754, and enjoyed model trains.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Whitehead; two daughters, Penny (Scott) Bechtolt and Terry Johnson, all of Monroe; four grandchildren, Tiffany Bechtolt, Allen (Stacy) Bechtolt, Peggy and Sarah Johnson; two brothers, Stanley (Shirley) Whitehead of Freeport, IL, and Milo (Barbara) Whitehead of Monroe; his brother-in-law, Lawrence Waelti of Monroe; sister-in-law, Maryann Whitehead of Janesville; and his loyal companion, his dog Sophie.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rodney Whitehead; and a sister, Clara Waelti.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Reverend William "Mike" Heath of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Wendell's name.
