Virginia L. Zweifel, age 78 of Monticello, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Virginia was born on February 14, 1940 in Monroe, the daughter of Glen and Viola (Rufer) Rosenstiel. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1958 and attended Green County Normal School. Virginia married Freddie Zweifel on June 30, 1963 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. She taught at Marty Rural School and Monticello Elementary before retiring after 40 years of teaching. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her house plants, reading, shopping for bargains, making pies, and country music (especially Elvis Presley). Virginia was a kind hearted person who would do anything for her family or friends. She always loved taking Behring Senior Center trips with her sister Joan.
She is survived by four children, Jeffrey Zweifel of Belleville, Angela (Bob) Prescott of Lebanon Junction, KY, Bradley Zweifel of Belleville, and Natasha Zweifel of Janesville; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five brothers, LaVerne (Sharon) of Monticello, Delbert of Monroe, Marvin (Sherry), Wayne (Diane), all of Browntown, Keith (Janice) of South Wayne; and three sisters, Joan Barth of Monroe, Shirley Eells, and Cynthia (Steve) Bechtolt, all of South Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Freddie, on June 13, 1998; and a brother, Harvey.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, with Rev. Kathleen Rinear officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe.
