BRODHEAD - Velda A. Olson, age 92, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Roscoe, IL, the daughter of John and Stella (Kuntzelman) Johnson. She married Edmund Olson in Dubuque, Iowa on October 5, 1940. He passed away on May 12, 1989.

Velda and her husband farmed in the Avon and Spring Valley Townships before moving to Brodhead in 1960. She had worked for APCO Sewing factory in Brodhead and Advance Transformer in Monroe, retiring in 1978. Velda was a member of Luther Valley Church, rural Beloit, and was an active member of the Brodhead Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid Brewer's fan. Velda also was named Brodhead Jaycee's Outstanding Woman in 2003.

She is survived by a daughter: Karen (Richard) Urbonya, Chetek, WI; two sons: Allen (Donna) Olson, Brodhead, Keith (Mary) Olson, Milton, WI; a sister: Viola Tschabold, Escanaba, MI; a sister-in-law: Hazel Johnson, Brodhead; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Vida Sill and Verna Johnson; and four brothers: Jesse, Laurence, Clyde, and Lloyd Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Luther Valley Church, rural Beloit, with Rev. Larry Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Luther Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, and from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday.
