DARLINGTON - The Darlington Safe Routes to School taskforce is hosting a bike rodeo from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds.
All area children are invited to attend the rodeo to have their skills checked and to learn tips that will keep them safe while biking. This is a free family event and it will be held rain or shine since the safety stations will be within the buildings at the fairgrounds.
Children need to bring their bike and helmet with them to be inspected and properly fitted prior to participating with the safety stations. All children who bring both their bike and helmet with them will receive a coupon for a free treat from McDonalds or Subway. If a child does not have a helmet, a free one will be provided while supplies last.
The bike rodeo will have an open house format and residents are encouraged to come and go as their schedules permit. It is not necessary to arrive at the event promptly at 4:30 p.m. A drawing for two free bikes will be held at 6:30 p.m. (need not be present to win).
The Darlington Safe Routes to School taskforce is chaired by Chief of Police Jason King, and its members consist of representatives from the Darlington Police Department, Darlington Community Schools, Holy Rosary School, UW Extension, Lafayette Health Department, EMS, and parents of Darlington children. Anyone interested in becoming part of this group should call 776-4981.
