Ruth H. Von Arx, age 92 of Monroe, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Monroe Manor. Ruth was born January 29, 1925 in Hickory, N.C., the daughter of Jefferson Bryant and Ila Elizabeth (Kanipe) Mace. She graduated from Hickory High School and studied two years of Library Science. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Von Arx on February 18, 1946. Ruth worked for the Pentagon before moving to Monroe. She was employed for several years at the Monroe Sears and worked as a receptionist for the Green/Rock farm Service Agency for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" (Charles) Martin; two grandsons, Anthony Anglin (Sarah Sughroue) and Todd M. Anglin, all of Monroe; four great grandchildren, Mercedes, Tristen, Mackenzie, and Kiara; two sisters, Nancy (Leonard) Mays and Barbara (Kenneth) Pryce, both of Granite Falls, NC; sister-in-laws, Joan Mace of Warner Robins, GA, and Ruth L. Von Arx of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Hoyt and Robert J. Mace; and three sisters, Marie Whitener, Louise Bodenheimer, and Helen Houston.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st. Ave., Monroe. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the American Legion. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
