Russell K. Neuenschwander, age 82, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on October 31, 1926, the son of Ernest and Bertha (Rubi) Neuenschwander, in Browntown. He attended schools in Albany. Russell entered the U.S. Army on January 30, 1945 and served in the South Pacific theater during W.W. II, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Independence Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Russell and Leona Legler were married on July 23, 1950 at St. John's United Church of Christ. He worked at Moore Business Forms for many years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially, just being outdoors.
Surviving are his children, Sue (Buddy) Stevenson of rural Juda; Scott Neuenschwander of rural Monroe; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifford Neuenschwander of Waupun and Don Neuenschwander of Monroe. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Leona; a son in infancy, Mark; a brother in infancy and sisters, Darlene Isely and Barbra Tuescher.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Family graveside services will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A memorial fund is being established in Russell's memory.
Russell will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
