ARGYLE - Russell F. "Hoot" Penniston age 78 of Argyle, WI, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, unexpectedly at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI. He was born September 25, 1931 in Argyle, the son of Russell and Alice (Anderson) Penniston, Sr. Hoot was baptized at the Wiota Lutheran Parsonage at a young age. He graduated from Argyle High School in 1951. Hoot was drafted into the U. S. Army on August 9, 1951 and was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, AK. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal from Camp Carson in Colorado, July 31, 1953. On April 2, 1955, he was united in marriage to LaVonne M. Johnson at West Wiota Lutheran Church in rural South Wayne, WI. Hoot was employed at Ostby's Garage his entire life.
Hoot is survived by his wife of 55 years: LaVonne, their two children: Kim (Mark) Swanson of Rochester, MN, and Jill (Brian) Pederson of Argyle; four grandchildren: Sage Swanson of Rochester, Adrienne Pederson of Middleton, WI, Serenity (John) Brose of West Salem, WI, and Alyssa Pederson of Whitewater, WI; one great-grandson: Berkley Brose; one sister: JoAnne Nysted of Argyle; and three sisters-in-law: Theresa Waage of Janesville, WI, Anita Penniston of Argyle, and Carol Krupke of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Charles, Bruce, and Roger Penniston; one brother-in-law: Donald Nysted; and a special uncle: Ralph Penniston.
Hoot was a 30 year member of the Argyle-Adams Fire Department. He was also a member of the Argyle Rod and Gun Club for many years. Hoot volunteered countless hours for the Racing Association building tracks and repairing stock cars. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Canada, feeding the birds, and fishing. Hoot was an avid reader. He loved dancing and sports especially the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 60 Breeze Terrace in Argyle with Rev. Luke Smetters of Wiota Lutheran Church in rural South Wayne officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle, where military graveside rites will be accorded by Argyle American Legion Post #251.
