Roy C. Stettler, age 81 of Brodhead, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.

Roy was born February 20, 1928 in Monroe, the son of Ferdinand and Clara (Studer) Stettler. Roy was raised in Barron, WI and graduated from Barron High School. He was stationed in Germany while serving with the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1948. He married Virginia Thompson on October 22, 1949 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. He then served in Korea from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Roy and Virginia lived in New Glarus for 18 years while Roy made cheese at the Farmers Grove Cheese Factory. He then was a cheesemaker at the Decatur Swiss Cheese Coop for 10 years before moving into Brodhead in 1979.

He was a member of the New Glarus American Legion Post #141 and the Historic Cheesemaking Center in Monroe.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Stettler of Brodhead; three children, Mike Stettler of Oshkosh, Royletta Stettler and Steve (Glennette) Stettler, all of Brodhead; three grandchildren, Grant (Stephanie) Stettler of Oshkosh, Shaya and Sierra Stettler, both of Brodhead; a step-granddaughter, Amberlynn (Rick) Johnson; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ryanna and Jayden Johnson, all of Brodhead; and his sister, Ruth Marty of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Stettler in 1996; a sister, Lillian Williams; and a brother, Ed Stettler.

Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, MONROE, with Monsignor Thomas Campion officiating. Military graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe V.F.W. A visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established in Roy's name for the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
