Robert L. Johnson, age 79 of Monroe, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on March 6, 1937 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn (Dunaway) Johnson. He graduated from Monroe High School. Robert married the love of his life, Marie May Pest on June 22, 1957 in Monroe. Their love lasted 56 years, and everything they did, they did as a couple. He worked as a cabinet maker for Bruni Miller, Kuhne Construction and MTX Design and Display.

He enjoyed going hunting and fishing in his younger years. He later enjoyed going up north to the cabin he built.

He is survived by his daughter, Bobbette (Carson) Hunt of Monroe; 2 step-grandchildren: Christina Strait and Melissa (Lucas) Leu; 2 step-great grandchildren; brother, Gene (Janice) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marie; mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Leona Pest; 2 brothers-in-law, Frank and Evan Pest.

Per Robert's wishes no services will be held. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family.
