Bruce Reichert, age 91 of Monroe, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Seasons of Life Hospice Center in Woodruff, WI following a short illness. He was born on February 10, 1917 in Carrington, North Dakota, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Reichert. Bruce attended Business College in Fargo North Dakota and entered the United States Army Air Corps, where he served as a Hospital Administrator at various posts during World War II. While serving his country he met his wife, Katherine (Kay), who also served in the Army Air Corps. Upon discharge from the service Bruce worked for the JCPenney Company for 37 years and retired as General Manager of the Monroe store. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Smith Lodge #31 Free and Accepted Masons, St. Omar Chapter #90 Order of the Eastern Star having served as a Worthy Patron, he was also a former member of the Zor Shrine of Madison and the Lion's Club of Monroe. Following his retirement, Bruce and his wife enjoyed many wonderful years as "Snowbirds" in Texas during the winter. Bruce adored his family and especially enjoyed spending summers with them in the Wisconsin north woods at his daughter's lake home.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine Reichert of Monroe; three children, Cheri Hurst of Arbor Vitae, Trish Barry of Middleton, and Tom Reichert of Huntsville, Alabama; and his four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, two sisters, and his grandson, Josh Reichert.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Monroe. The family is requesting memorials be offered to the Seasons of Life Hospice House, P.O. Box 770, Woodruff, WI 54568 or the Salvation Army.
