Richard A. Bruny, age 75 of Monroe, died Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Monroe Manor following complications from open heart surgery.

Richard was born August 4, 1932 in Green County, Wisconsin, the son of Samuel and Frieda (Wyss) Bruny. Dick graduated from Monroe High School in 1950 where he played defense on the school football team. He was stationed in Montana while serving three years in the U.S. Air Force. Dick attended Milwaukee School of Engineering for one year before returning to Monroe and working at Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern for 13 years. He then was employed in the office at Moore Business Forms until his retirement in 1989.

He married Betty Daugherty, formerly of Wabash, Indiana in June of 1963 in Des Plaines, IL. They built their home on Stauffacher Road, Sylvester Township, in 1973 and have resided at Twining Valley since 2004.

Dick was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ in Monroe and the Monroe American Legion Post #84. He enjoyed bowling and loved all types of hunting and fishing, especially time spent with his three black Labs. He was also considered a local artist because of his wood carving abilities.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bruny of Monroe; a brother, Roger (Gail) Bruny of South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Ray Trumpy of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews including Maureen McGuire, Kristine Rufenacht, David, Edward, Daniel and Thomas McGuire, and Byron, Anthony, and Melissa Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley McGuire and Lois Trumpy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Reverend Gretchen Sylvester of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Bethel-Hawthorne Cemetery, rural Monroe. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Richard's name. A graveside memorial celebration will be held in the Spring.
