Raymond K. Michaelis, 83, Durand, IL, died at 8:40 a.m., Sunday, May 15, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.
Born November 18, 1932 in Brodhead, WI, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Lucille (Summerfelt) Michaelis. Married the former Linda M. Moreno in Las Vegas, NV on January 4, 1991. Raymond started out farming and then owned and operated Ray's Feed and Seed and Wheel Inn in Durand, IL. Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army. He was a member of Winnebago County Farm Bureau and Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Ray lived a very full and wonderful life. He will be missed very much by his family.
Survivors include wife, Linda Michaelis, Durand, IL; sons, Ken (Diane) Michaelis, Orfordville, WI, Kevin (Mary) Michaelis, Freeport, IL and Kurt (Christine) Michaelis, Durand, Illinois; daughters, Kristine Alexander, Loves Park, IL and Corey (Eric) Watson, Davis, IL; 15 grandchildren; sister, Maxine Kahler, Belvidere, IL; several nieces and nephews and his pet dog Sir Toby. He was preceded in death by his parents and Delores Michaelis.
I want to say a special thanks to Ray's caregiver, Stacy Diffendorfer. She was wonderful to him. Ray was so happy with her. Also thanks to Northern IL Hospice.
Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 in Durand United Methodist Church, 102 East Main Street, Durand, IL with Pastor Brian Channel officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18. The procession to the Durand Township Cemetery will be led by Ray's tractor and everyone who is able may bring their tractor and join the procession.
