Ralph Kubly, age 93 of Monticello, passed away peacefully and with grace, as he lived his life, at his home in Monticello, on Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born on June 27th, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant Township, east of Monticello on the family farm, where he resided for 62 years. Upon retirement he moved to his residence in the Village of Monticello. He has joined, in heaven, his beloved wife Arlene, and daughter Joanne, along with his parents Abraham and Ella (Jenny), his brother Herman, and sister Belva Bowes.
On September 3rd, 1937, Ralph married the love of his life Arlene Ritschard at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. He worked the family farm with his parents until he purchased it in 1948; he became the third Kubly generation to farm it. His son, Tom, took over ownership in 1979 and his grandson, Scott, has become the fifth generation to operate the family farm. Though Ralph retired he continued to help in spring plantings and fall harvesting until his late eighties. Ralph was always interested in modernizing the dairy farm by implementing the use of automation and the Harvestore storage units.
Ralph was an avid sports fan, who especially took great enjoyment in hunting and fishing. He was a life member of Marshall Bluff Bowhunters Club and Zwingli United Church of Christ. Ralph took great pride in his farm continuing within his family and loved all his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And, he looked forward to socializing during his daily lunch hour at the M & M Café enjoying their soup and pie.
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Carol (Otto) Gebhardt; his son, Tom (Carol) Kubly; grandchildren, Dale and Daryl (Tracy) Peterson and Scott Kubly, Brenda (Jim) Lawson, Deborah (Joe) Elmer, Jeff Kubly, and Katie Kubly (fiance Rich Marti); along with nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, Monticello, on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Ralph's name. The family would like to thank Ralph's recent caregiver, Joyce Halverson.
