BRODHEAD - The Brodhead Police Department is reminding citizens to secure their homes at night, following a series of thefts and break-ins on the city's east side during the weekend.
Authorities investigated four incidents in which money and property were taken from residential homes, said Brodhead Police Chief Thomas Moczynski. In three of the cases, the homes were entered while occupied by the owners.
Moczynski said in a press release that it appears that, in the early morning hours Saturday, that there was entry to the homes after screen windows were cut open.
In a related case, property was taken from a home after a screen was cut open and property near the window was removed.
Burglaries are not common in Brodhead and entries to occupied homes are extremely rare, Moczynski said. He recommends locking doors and closing first-floor windows prior to going to sleep or leaving.
