New Glarus Police

NEW GLARUS - On March 4:

♦ Police assisted the Green County Sheriff at 8:29 p.m. in Monticello with a citizen assist.

On March 5:

♦ Police issued 10 parking citations for violation of the alternate side parking ordinance.

♦ Jose A. Navarro, 36, Blanchardville, was cited for operating without a valid driver's license after a traffic stop for a registration violation.

♦ Keith D. Hartje, 22, Evansville, was arrested at 5:26 p.m. after police received a complaint of felony bail jumping. It was reported Hartje met with a 14-year-old juvenile female in the 1700 block of 2nd Street. Hartje is under court order not to have contact with this juvenile. Hartje was located later that day just outside New Glarus and taken into custody by the Green County Sheriff's Department for numerous counts of felony bail jumping and obstructing by their agency. As a result, the New Glarus Police Department will be referring nine counts of felony bail jumping for the incident that took place in New Glarus. Hartje was transported and confined into the Green County Jail and held without bond.

♦ Police came across a vehicle in the ditch at 8:17 p.m. on County H and 2nd Street. The vehicle had no damage and police stood by until it was removed.

♦ Police assisted the Green County Sheriff at 9:12 p.m. in the W5100 block of Edelweiss Road with a felony bail jumping incident. This incident is related to the Bail Jumping complaint received earlier in the evening in New Glarus.

♦ Police unlocked a vehicle without incident at 11:09 p.m. in the 1000 block of Wis. 69.

On March 6:

♦ Police issued one parking ctiation for violation of the alternate side parking ordinance.

♦ A chicken was found and reported to police at 3:28 p.m. on 6th Avenue at 3rd Street. The owner was located and the chicken was returned.

♦ A parking complaint was received at 4:16 p.m. in the 600 block of 5th Street.

On March 7:

♦ Levi P. Archer, 28, Belleville, was cited for speeding 19 mph over and for not wearing a seatbelt at 4:53 p.m. in the 10 block of 2nd Street.

♦ Samuel M. Zweerts, 19, Blanchardville, was cited for non-registration of a motor vehicle after a traffic stop for the registration violation at 11:15 p.m. on 6th Avenue at 7th Street.

On March 8:

♦ The Green County Sherriff's Office investigated a possible skimming device on a gas pump at 7:29 a.m. in the 700 block of Wis. 69. It was determined there was no skimming device in place. No New Glarus officer was available at the time of call.

♦ A possible weapons violation was reported at 10:12 a.m. in New Glarus. Police determined there was no violation or threat to safety.

♦ A suspicious vehicle was reported at 5:39 p.m. at 14th Avenue and 1st Street. The vehicle left the area before contacted by police.

♦ Police assisted the Green County Sheriff with the use of the intoximeter for an absolute sobriety arrest at 9:49 p.m. The arrest was made by the Green County Sheriff.

On March 9:

♦ Police issued four parking citations for violations of alternate side parking in various locations in the village.

♦ New Glarus Police assisted the Green County Sheriff with a two-vehicle crash at 1:12 p.m. on Wis. 69 at County C.

♦ Police assisted Belleville Police with a disturbance at 2:41 p.m. on Heritage Lane.

♦ Fraud was reported at 5:10 p.m. for a mail/phone scam. A citizen received a phone call that a check for $50,000 was going to be mailed to their residence. The citizen took no action and contacted the police department to confirm that it was a scam.

♦ An animal ordinance issue was reported at 6:20 p.m. The situation will be monitored.

On March 10:

♦ Police issued 11 parking citations. Eight of the citations were for violation of the alternate side parking ordinance and three citations were for violation of the no parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. ordinance.

♦ Police assisted a family with a preserve the peace at 9 a.m. while they settled estate belongings. There weren't any problems and everything was successfully worked out amongst themselves.

♦ A civil problem was reported at 10:06 a.m. in the 600 block of 2nd Street. A person reported a cellular phone issue. They were advised the matter was a civil issue and they should work the matter out with the cell phone service provider.

♦ A suspicious vehicle was reported at 1:07 p.m. in the area of 13th Avenue. Two suspicious people were observed walking away from the vehicle. The area was checked, and the two subjects were not located.

♦ A suspicious vehicle was reported at 6:08 p.m. in the area of 13th Avenue and 3rd Street. The vehicle was later located unoccupied on 1st Street at 12th Avenue.

♦ Police responded at 8:20 p.m. to the 300 block of 5th Avenue where a subject was warned for unlawful use of a telephone.

♦ Police assisted the Green County Sheriff with a disabled vehicle at 10:54 p.m. on County H west of 2nd Street. Police also assisted with the arrest of the passenger in the vehicle who had outstanding warrants.

On March 11:

♦ Police assisted a business at 10:41 a.m. on Wis. 69 after a suspicious alarm was set off and then reset at the business. Police along with an employee checked the business and it was found to be an employee error.

♦ Police assisted a resident with a loose poodle at 11:47 a.m. Upon arrival the dog had already be caught by an alert neighbor and was returned to the owner.

♦ Police assisted a motorist at 4:18 p.m. after being notified of an occupied, disabled vehicle stopped in a lane of traffic at Wis. 69 and Wis. 39. Upon arrival the vehicle had already been towed from the roadway by a Samaritan and moved to the Roy's Market parking lot. The owners made a arrangements for a tow truck to remove it from the parking lot.

♦ A suspicious vehicle and parking complaint was reported at 4:38 p.m. on Second Street. The vehicle was found parked and registered to someone from Madison. Police kept checking on the vehicle and the area for any further problems.
