Darlington Police

DARLINGTON - Jayme L. Davis, 42, Darlington, was cited on Wednesday for allowing a child to operate farm machinery following a traffic crash that occurred on Saturday on Main Street. Police Chief Jason King said Davis's 11-year-old son was using a tractor to haul hay bales down Main Street in Darlington when the tractor hit a parked car and the tractor continued on. Witnesses chased down the tractor and notified police where it was, King said. Children aged 12 to 15 are allowed to operate farm machinery, but need to pass a tractor machinery operation safety course to be allowed to legally use it on a highway, according to the University of Wisconsin-Extension Dane County website. The vehicle was legally parked, unoccupied and was severely damaged. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
